My work is a form of social documentary. I aim to create images that remind people of themselves in our present time. The figure becomes a point of entry to a state of inner reflection. Gesture and pose trigger memories of the body which are seperate from our consciousness; they are the physical instincts of our emotional being. I wish to bring about a conscious acknowledgment of the body, as experienced from within and without.
The art of portraiture and figure drawing demands an extensive conceptual and perceptual base of knowledge. Through diligent study of human anatomy and the craft of drawing and painting, I have arrived at imagery which communicates my interpertation of the essential truths of human experience and makes a record of a finite period of time. |
